SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION to recognize St. Luke's United
2 Methodist Church's Creation Care ministry for their dedication
3 to social justice, protecting the environment, and dismantling
4 racism.
5 Whereas, St. Luke's Community for Contemplation and
6 Justice weaves together opportunities for deep internal
7 discovery and the seeking of justice for all creation;
8 Whereas, St. Luke's various ministries actively work toward
9 combating racism, protecting the environment, and seeking
10 social justice by creating and participating in programs
11 tailored to these goals;
12 Whereas, St. Luke's Social Action Committee meets semi-
13 monthly with local leaders and congregation members to
14 discuss topics such as addressing gun violence, homelessness,
15 eviction, immigration, juvenile justice, mass incarceration,
16 redistricting, and voting rights;
17 Whereas, St. Luke's Creation Care Ministry meets monthly
18 to discuss ways to care for the Earth, such as recycling
19 opportunities, sustainable practices, and resource

1 conservation;
2 Whereas, St. Luke's is involved in local prison ministries
3 and has its own LGBTQ ministry and racial justice ministry;
4 Whereas, St. Luke's Interfaith Relationship Ministry
5 partners with other faiths in the local community for tours to
6 houses of worship, and engages in theological and culturally
7 diverse activities, such as book studies, speakers, and cultural
8 experiences;
9 Whereas, St. Luke's Tenant Advocacy Group meets monthly
10 to discuss state and national updates on housing and educate
11 themselves on how to better advocate for the rights of tenants;
12 and
13 Whereas, St. Luke's ministries serve to help the people of
14 Indiana and help to make Indiana a better, safer, and cleaner
15 place to live: Therefore,
16 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
17 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
18 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honor St. Luke's
19 United Methodist Church and their Creation Care Ministry as
20 groups that work toward the betterment of Indiana and its
21 people.
22 SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby
23 directed to transmit copies of this resolution to St. Luke's
24 Creation Care Ministry.
