Synopsis:  Unlawful encroachment. Authorizes a law enforcement
officer to order a person to stop approaching the law enforcement
officer if the officer reasonably believes that the person's presence
within 25 feet of the officer will interfere with the performance of the
officer's duties. Provides that a person who knowingly or intentionally
approaches within 25 feet of a law enforcement officer after being
ordered to stop approaching commits unlawful encroachment on a law
enforcement officer, a Class C misdemeanor.
Effective:  July 1, 2025.

HOUSE BILL No. 1122
A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
criminal law and procedure.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
1 SECTION 1. IC 35-44.1-2-15 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA
2 CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS
3 [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025]: Sec. 15. (a) A law enforcement officer:
4 (1) lawfully engaged in the execution of the law enforcement
5 officer's duties; and
6 (2) who reasonably believes that a person's presence within
7 twenty-five (25) feet of the law enforcement officer will
8 interfere with the performance of the law enforcement
9 officer's duties;
10 may order the person to stop approaching.
11 (b) A person who knowingly or intentionally approaches within
12 twenty-five (25) feet of a law enforcement officer lawfully engaged
13 in the execution of the law enforcement officer's duties after the
14 law enforcement officer has ordered the person to stop
15 approaching in accordance with subsection (a) commits unlawful
16 encroachment on a law enforcement officer, a Class C
17 misdemeanor.
