HOUSE BILL No. 1158 A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning local government. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana: 1 SECTION 1. IC 36-2-13-20 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE 2 AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 3 1, 2025]: Sec. 20. (a) Not later than January 1, 2026, each sheriff 4 with regard to a county jail shall enter into a written agreement 5 with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement to 6 participate in the immigration program established under Section 7 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1357(g)). 8 This subsection does not require a sheriff to participate in a 9 particular program model. 10 (b) Beginning not later than October 1, 2025, and until the 11 sheriff enters into the written agreement required under subsection 12 (a), each sheriff must notify the department of correction quarterly 13 of the status of a written agreement described in subsection (a) and 14 any reason for noncompliance with this section, if applicable. 2025 IN 1158—LS 6883/DI 110
