HOUSE BILL No. 1244 A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning health. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana: 1 SECTION 1. IC 16-46-18 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE 2 AS A NEW CHAPTER TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE 3 JULY 1, 2025]: 4 Chapter 18. Grants to Reduce Maternal Mortality 5 Sec. 1. (a) The state department shall develop a program to 6 award grants to community based programs designed to reduce the 7 prevalence of maternal mortality in Indiana. 8 (b) In developing the grant program under subsection (a), the 9 state department shall collaborate with the statewide maternal 10 mortality review committee. 11 (c) The state department shall establish workgroups to assist in 12 the development of the grant program. The members of a 13 workgroup may include the following: 14 (1) The commissioner or the commissioner's designee. 15 (2) The maternal mortality review coordinator. 16 (3) The chairperson for a suicide and overdose fatality review 17 team. 2025 IN 1244—LS 6536/DI 148 2 1 (4) Health care providers specializing in maternal care. 2 (5) Mental health counselors. 3 (6) Behavioral health specialists. 4 (7) Public health advocates who work with maternal mortality 5 prevention. 6 (8) Representatives of community based organizations 7 involved in providing education, awareness, or support 8 relating to maternal mortality. 9 (9) Any other persons the state department determines are 10 necessary. 11 (d) The state department may make grants to community based 12 programs that provide mental and behavioral health treatments 13 and support to individuals with maternal mental health conditions 14 or substance use disorders. 15 Sec. 2. The state department may adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 16 to administer this chapter. 17 Sec. 3.
