1515 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing March 21,
1616 2 2025, as World Down Syndrome Day.
1717 3 Whereas, World Down Syndrome Day is a global celebration
1818 4 honoring the people living with Down syndrome, recognizing
1919 5 their unique talents, contributions, and the love they bring to
2020 6 their families and communities;
2121 7 Whereas, The United Nations recognized World Down
2222 8 Syndrome Day in 2012, and it has been observed annually on
2323 9 March 21, symbolizing the triplication of the 21st chromosome
2424 10 that causes Down syndrome;
2525 11 Whereas, This special day serves as an opportunity to raise
2626 12 awareness, promote inclusion, and highlight the value of
2727 13 individuals with Down syndrome, ensuring they are supported
2828 14 and given opportunities to reach their full potential;
2929 15 Whereas, Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal
3030 16 condition in the United States;
3131 17 Whereas, An estimated 250,700 children, teens, and adults in
3232 18 the United States live with Down syndrome;
3333 19 Whereas, Down syndrome is not related to race, nationality,
3434 20 religion, or socioeconomic status;
3535 21 Whereas, With the right support, individuals with Down
3636 22 syndrome lead healthy and fulfilling lives while making
3737 23 meaningful contributions to their families and communities;

3939 1 Whereas, World Down Syndrome Day encourages
4040 2 participants from across the world to celebrate the
4141 3 achievements, resilience, and aspirations of individuals with
4242 4 Down syndrome;
4343 5 Whereas, Groups, such as The Arc of Indiana and Down
4444 6 Syndrome Indiana, help to recognize World Down Syndrome
4545 7 Day by increasing awareness of Down syndrome and offering
4646 8 support to individuals and families;
4747 9 Whereas, These groups advocate for legislation, regulation,
4848 10 and policies that make a positive difference in the lives of
4949 11 Hoosiers with intellectual and other developmental disabilities
5050 12 such as Down syndrome;
5151 13 Whereas, In the spirit of raising awareness in a fun and
5252 14 engaging way, the Rock Your Socks event encourages people to
5353 15 wear brightly colored or mismatched socks, sparking
5454 16 conversations and showing solidarity with the Down syndrome
5555 17 community; and
5656 18 Whereas, World Down Syndrome Day seeks to create a single
5757 19 global voice for people living with Down syndrome and
5858 20 increase awareness of the impact those with Down syndrome
5959 21 have on their communities: Therefore,
6060 22 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
6161 23 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
6262 24 the Senate concurring:
6363 25 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes
6464 26 March 21, 2025, as World Down Syndrome Day.
6565 27 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
6666 28 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
6767 29 Representative Lori Goss-Reaves for distribution.
