22 | 22 | | 6 94,000 farmers who are key partners for the safety, security, |

23 | 23 | | 7 and sustainability of Indiana's food supply; |

24 | 24 | | 8 Whereas, The labor of Indiana's farmworkers contributes |
---|
25 | 25 | | 9 billions of dollars annually to the state's economy, and |
---|
26 | 26 | | 10 agriculture continues to be one of the principal industries in the |
---|
27 | 27 | | 11 state; |

28 | 28 | | 12 Whereas, Indiana honors all those who plant, cultivate, |
---|
29 | 29 | | 13 harvest, and process our agricultural products; |
---|
30 | 30 | | 14 Whereas, Proteus, Inc., is an Iowa-based private, 501(c)(3) |

31 | 31 | | 15 nonprofit organization serving migrant and seasonal |
---|
32 | 32 | | 16 farmworkers, immigrants, and others since 1979; |
---|
33 | 33 | | 17 Whereas, In addition to offices in Iowa, Proteus, Inc., serves |
---|
34 | 34 | | 18 a constituency in Indiana and Nebraska; |
---|
35 | 35 | | 19 Whereas, Proteus, Inc., was created to help provide |
---|
36 | 36 | | 20 communities with health, educational, and economic |
---|
37 | 37 | | 21 opportunities; |

38 | 38 | | 22 Whereas, To achieve its goals, Proteus, Inc., strives to make |
---|
39 | 39 | | 23 its programs accessible to as many members of the community |
---|
40 | 40 | | 24 as possible; embraces diversity in staff, recipients of services, |

51 | 51 | | 10 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives |
---|
52 | 52 | | 11 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, |
---|
53 | 53 | | 12 the Senate concurring: |

54 | 54 | | 13 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes |
---|
55 | 55 | | 14 March 25 through March 31 as "Farmworker and Farmer |
---|
56 | 56 | | 15 Awareness Week" in 2025. |
---|
57 | 57 | | 16 SECTION 2. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes: |
---|
58 | 58 | | 17 the efforts of Indiana's farmers and farmworkers, and their |
---|
59 | 59 | | 18 many contributions to the agricultural industry in Indiana; and |
---|
60 | 60 | | 19 Proteus, Inc., and its efforts to help bring a fair wage and safe |
---|
61 | 61 | | 20 and secure working environments to all members of Indiana's |
---|
62 | 62 | | 21 agricultural labor force. |
---|
63 | 63 | | 22 SECTION 3. That the Principal Clerk of the House of |
---|
64 | 64 | | 23 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State |
---|
65 | 65 | | 24 Representative Maureen Bauer for distribution. |
