1717 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing
1818 2 "Farmworker and Farmer Awareness Week" and the work of
1919 3 Proteus, Inc.
2020 4 Whereas, Indiana's agribusiness industry employs more than
2121 5 186,000 year-round, seasonal, and migrant farmworkers and
2222 6 94,000 farmers who are key partners for the safety, security,
2323 7 and sustainability of Indiana's food supply;
2424 8 Whereas, The labor of Indiana's farmworkers contributes
2525 9 billions of dollars annually to the state's economy, and
2626 10 agriculture continues to be one of the principal industries in the
2727 11 state;
2828 12 Whereas, Indiana honors all those who plant, cultivate,
2929 13 harvest, and process our agricultural products;
3030 14 Whereas, Proteus, Inc., is an Iowa-based private, 501(c)(3)
3131 15 nonprofit organization serving migrant and seasonal
3232 16 farmworkers, immigrants, and others since 1979;
3333 17 Whereas, In addition to offices in Iowa, Proteus, Inc., serves
3434 18 a constituency in Indiana and Nebraska;
3535 19 Whereas, Proteus, Inc., was created to help provide
3636 20 communities with health, educational, and economic
3737 21 opportunities;
3838 22 Whereas, To achieve its goals, Proteus, Inc., strives to make
3939 23 its programs accessible to as many members of the community
4040 24 as possible; embraces diversity in staff, recipients of services,

4242 1 program delivery, and in programs as a whole; develops a
4343 2 culture of respect and acceptance in its organization and
4444 3 general community; creates, evaluates, and maintains
4545 4 programs to meet the changing needs of the community; and
4646 5 treats all people in an honest, caring, and respectful manner;
4747 6 and
4848 7 Whereas, The agricultural industry is strong throughout the
4949 8 state of Indiana, and the strength of the industry's workers
5050 9 continues to keep it great: Therefore,
5151 10 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
5252 11 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
5353 12 the Senate concurring:
5454 13 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes
5555 14 March 25 through March 31 as "Farmworker and Farmer
5656 15 Awareness Week" in 2025.
5757 16 SECTION 2. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes:
5858 17 the efforts of Indiana's farmers and farmworkers, and their
5959 18 many contributions to the agricultural industry in Indiana; and
6060 19 Proteus, Inc., and its efforts to help bring a fair wage and safe
6161 20 and secure working environments to all members of Indiana's
6262 21 agricultural labor force.
6363 22 SECTION 3. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
6464 23 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
6565 24 Representative Maureen Bauer for distribution.
