Bauer M, Andrade, Garcia Wilburn, Harris, Moed _______________________, read first time and referred to Committee on 20253062 2025 HC 1033/DI 140 Introduced First Regular Session of the 124th General Assembly (2025) HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. ____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing 2 "Farmworker and Farmer Awareness Week" and the work of 3 Proteus, Inc. 4 Whereas, Indiana's agribusiness industry employs more than 5 186,000 year-round, seasonal, and migrant farmworkers and 6 94,000 farmers who are key partners for the safety, security, 7 and sustainability of Indiana's food supply; 8 Whereas, The labor of Indiana's farmworkers contributes 9 billions of dollars annually to the state's economy, and 10 agriculture continues to be one of the principal industries in the 11 state; 12 Whereas, Indiana honors all those who plant, cultivate, 13 harvest, and process our agricultural products; 14 Whereas, Proteus, Inc., is an Iowa-based private, 501(c)(3) 15 nonprofit organization serving migrant and seasonal 16 farmworkers, immigrants, and others since 1979; 17 Whereas, In addition to offices in Iowa, Proteus, Inc., serves 18 a constituency in Indiana and Nebraska; 19 Whereas, Proteus, Inc., was created to help provide 20 communities with health, educational, and economic 21 opportunities; 22 Whereas, To achieve its goals, Proteus, Inc., strives to make 23 its programs accessible to as many members of the community 24 as possible; embraces diversity in staff, recipients of services, 2025 HC 1033/DI 140 2 1 program delivery, and in programs as a whole; develops a 2 culture of respect and acceptance in its organization and 3 general community; creates, evaluates, and maintains 4 programs to meet the changing needs of the community; and 5 treats all people in an honest, caring, and respectful manner; 6 and 7 Whereas, The agricultural industry is strong throughout the 8 state of Indiana, and the strength of the industry's workers 9 continues to keep it great: Therefore, 10 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives 11 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, 12 the Senate concurring: 13 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes 14 March 25 through March 31 as "Farmworker and Farmer 15 Awareness Week" in 2025. 16 SECTION 2. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes: 17 the efforts of Indiana's farmers and farmworkers, and their 18 many contributions to the agricultural industry in Indiana; and 19 Proteus, Inc., and its efforts to help bring a fair wage and safe 20 and secure working environments to all members of Indiana's 21 agricultural labor force. 22 SECTION 3. That the Principal Clerk of the House of 23 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State 24 Representative Maureen Bauer for distribution. 2025 HC 1033/DI 140
