1515 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing Grant Cates
1616 2 of Oak Hill High School.
1717 3 Whereas, Grant Cates, a senior from Oak Hill, delivered a
1818 4 historic performance at the Indiana High School Athletic
1919 5 Association (IHSAA) state swimming and diving finals on
2020 6 Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Indiana University
2121 7 Natatorium;
2222 8 Whereas, Heading into the final diving competition of his
2323 9 high school career, Cates had his sights set on breaking the
2424 10 IHSAA's oldest swimming and diving record. He exceeded all
2525 11 expectations, shattering the previous mark of 623.90, set by
2626 12 Hamilton Southeastern's Phillip Jones in 2001, with an
2727 13 impressive score of 655.95;
2828 14 Whereas, Grant Cates had never broken 600 as a score until
2929 15 right before the sectional, but he finished his final season with
3030 16 multiple wins over 600 points; and
3131 17 Whereas, This remarkable achievement not only earned him
3232 18 the state title but also cemented his legacy as one of Indiana's
3333 19 all-time great high school divers: Therefore,
3434 20 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
3535 21 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
3636 22 the Senate concurring:
3737 23 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes
3838 24 Grant Cates upon winning the 2025 IHSAA diving state
3939 25 championship.
