RESOLUTION No. ____
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing Grant Cates
2 of Oak Hill High School.
3 Whereas, Grant Cates, a senior from Oak Hill, delivered a
4 historic performance at the Indiana High School Athletic
5 Association (IHSAA) state swimming and diving finals on
6 Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Indiana University
7 Natatorium; 
8 Whereas, Heading into the final diving competition of his
9 high school career, Cates had his sights set on breaking the
10 IHSAA's oldest swimming and diving record. He exceeded all
11 expectations, shattering the previous mark of 623.90, set by
12 Hamilton Southeastern's Phillip Jones in 2001, with an
13 impressive score of 655.95; 
14 Whereas, Grant Cates had never broken 600 as a score until
15 right before the sectional, but he finished his final season with
16 multiple wins over 600 points; and
17 Whereas, This remarkable achievement not only earned him
18 the state title but also cemented his legacy as one of Indiana's
19 all-time great high school divers: Therefore,
20 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives
21 of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
22 the Senate concurring:
23 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes
24 Grant Cates upon winning the 2025 IHSAA diving state
25 championship.

1 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
2 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
3 Representative Lori Goss-Reaves for distribution.
