1515 2 health research and supporting awareness for cardiovascular
1616 3 disease.
1717 4 Whereas, Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of
1818 5 death in women, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer

2323 HR 1512/DI 140 2025 2
2424 1 percent are living with some form of cardiovascular disease
2525 2 and less than half of women entering pregnancy in the United
2626 3 States have optimal cardiovascular health;
2727 4 Whereas, Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of
2828 5 maternal death in the U.S. meaning heart disease is the number
2929 6 one killer of new mothers;
3030 7 Whereas, Overall, 10 to 20 percent of women will have a
3131 8 health issue during pregnancy, and high blood pressure,
3232 9 preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes during pregnancy
3333 10 greatly increase a women's risk for developing cardiovascular
3434 11 disease later in life;
3535 12 Whereas, Most cardiac and stroke events can be prevented
3636 13 through education and lifestyle changes, such as increasing
3737 14 physical activity, eating smart, and managing blood pressure;
3838 15 Whereas, In 2020, stroke caused the deaths of 90,627
3939 16 women, approximately 56.5 percent of total stroke deaths;
4040 17 Whereas, Women are often less likely to receive bystander
4141 18 CPR because rescuers often fear accusations of inappropriate
4242 19 touching, sexual assault, or injuring the victim;
4343 20 Whereas, There are significant biological differences
4444 21 between men and women, and clinical trials have not always
4545 22 adequately enrolled women or analyzed sex-specific differences
4646 23 in the data, and, as of 2020, only 38 percent of cardiovascular
4747 24 clinical research trial participants are women; and
4848 25 Whereas, Since 2004, the American Heart Association's "Go
4949 26 Red for Women" movement has addressed the awareness and
5050 27 clinical care gaps of women's greatest health threat,
5151 28 cardiovascular disease, and, on the cusp of the American Heart
5252 29 Association's 100th anniversary, continues to make bold moves
5353 30 to save lives and pioneer scientific discoveries: Therefore,
5454 31 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
