8	8	1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION recognizing March 25, 2025, as
9	9	2 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Day at the Indiana
10	10	3 Statehouse.
11	11	4 Whereas, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, was
12	12	5 founded on January 15, 1908, with a mission to promote unity
13	13	6 and friendship among college women, to study and help
14	14	7 alleviate problems concerning girls and women to improve
15	15	8 their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in
16	16	9 college life, and to be of "Service to All Mankind";
17	17	10 Whereas, In 1915, the sorority hosted its first political action
18	18	11 conference with Illinois Congressman and human rights activist
19	19	12 Martin B. Madden as the speaker;
20	20	13 Whereas, Through the years, the sorority's function has

23	23	1 become more complex, branching out to engage members
24	24	2 worldwide in advocacy and service projects to improve
25	25	3 socioeconomic, racial, political, and environmental conditions;
26	26	4 Whereas, Alpha Kappa Alpha's diverse, collaborative work
27	27	5 throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa,
28	28	6 and the United Arab Emirates integrates a high level of
29	29	7 personal engagement with the strong bonds of sisterhood and
30	30	8 a productive network of community partners;
31	31	9 Whereas, On March 25, 2025, Indiana members of Alpha
32	32	10 Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, will participate in "AKA
33	33	11 Day at the Indiana State Capitol";
34	34	12 Whereas, The annual event is an opportunity for members to
35	35	13 speak with local lawmakers, engage in workshops, and
36	36	14 advocate for critical issues, such as Black maternal health and
37	37	15 suicide prevention;
38	38	16 Whereas, Indiana is home to 23 Alpha Kappa Alpha
39	39	17 chapters, eight of which are located on college and university
40	40	18 campuses, and these chapters have 15 active alumnae groups
41	41	19 in communities throughout the state;
42	42	20 Whereas, The central region of the United States is home to
43	43	21 96 empowered and engaged chapters serving Illinois, Indiana,
44	44	22 Kentucky, Minnesota, southeastern Missouri, North Dakota,
45	45	23 South Dakota, and Wisconsin; and
46	46	24 Whereas, There are two members of Alpha Kappa Alpha
47	47	25 currently serving in the Indiana General Assembly: Therefore,
48	48	26 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
49	49	27 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
50	50	28 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
51	51	29 recognizes March 25, 2025, as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
52	52	30 Incorporated, Day at the Indiana State Capitol.
53	53	31 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
54	54	32 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to Alpha
55	55	33 Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Alpha Mu Omega and Chi
56	56	34 Chi Omega chapters, in recognition of all Indiana chapters.
