7	7	1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Tom Morrison for his
8	8	2 service to Indiana higher education.
9	9	3 Whereas, Tom Morrison is the first vice president for capital
10	10	4 planning and facilities at Indiana University (IU);
11	11	5 Whereas, Tom Morrison earned his bachelor's degree from
12	12	6 the University of Denver, his master's degree from the
13	13	7 University of Maryland, and his doctorate in higher education
14	14	8 administration from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana;
15	15	9 Whereas, Prior to his arrival at IU, Morrison held
16	16	10 leadership roles at Ball State University and the University of
17	17	11 Virginia;
18	18	12 Whereas, Tom Morrison has been IU's chief capital,
19	19	13 facilities, planning, and real estate officer since 2009,

22	22	1 overseeing all facility-related operations, acquisitions, and
23	23	2 capital projects of IU's nine campuses and serving as liaison to
24	24	3 state and federal agencies for all capital-related items;
25	25	4 Whereas, Tom Morrison oversees an organization with
26	26	5 nearly 1,000 employees, and under his leadership, IU invested
27	27	6 in and delivered on a $1 billion campus renewal program that
28	28	7 has been successful in addressing the university's goal to
29	29	8 eliminate its deferred maintenance backlog by 2020, as well as
30	30	9 perform continued repairs and renovations as they arise;
31	31	10 Whereas, Tom Morrison maintains responsibility for the
32	32	11 physical infrastructure and development of IU's campuses,
33	33	12 encompassing a real estate portfolio of over 800 buildings with
34	34	13 a value of nearly $8 billion, as well as overseeing the planning
35	35	14 and construction or renovation of over 30 structures on all the
36	36	15 campuses of Indiana University;
37	37	16 Whereas, Tom Morrison has accepted a new role as vice
38	38	17 president for facilities at Duke University effective June 1, but
39	39	18 he will continue in his role at IU through the spring semester;
40	40	19 Whereas, Tom Morrison received the IU Bicentennial Medal
41	41	20 in August 2019 in recognition of his distinguished service as the
42	42	21 vice president for capital planning and facilities, and he
43	43	22 received the President's Medal for Excellence in 2021;
44	44	23 Whereas, Tom Morrison has been a dedicated employee of
45	45	24 Indiana University and has spent the last 16 years working to
46	46	25 improve the university's campuses across the state of Indiana;
47	47	26 and
48	48	27 Whereas, Tom Morrison's school colors will be changing
49	49	28 from red to blue, but he'll always be a Hoosier at heart. The
50	50	29 Indiana House of Representatives wishes him luck in his new
51	51	30 role: Therefore,
52	52	31 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
53	53	32 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
54	54	33 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
55	55	34 honors Tom Morrison for his service to Indiana higher
