1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Tom Morrison for his
2 service to Indiana higher education.
3 Whereas, Tom Morrison is the first vice president for capital
4 planning and facilities at Indiana University (IU);
5 Whereas, Tom Morrison earned his bachelor's degree from
6 the University of Denver, his master's degree from the
7 University of Maryland, and his doctorate in higher education
8 administration from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana;
9 Whereas, Prior to his arrival at IU, Morrison held
10 leadership roles at Ball State University and the University of
11 Virginia;
12 Whereas, Tom Morrison has been IU's chief capital,
13 facilities, planning, and real estate officer since 2009,

1 overseeing all facility-related operations, acquisitions, and
2 capital projects of IU's nine campuses and serving as liaison to
3 state and federal agencies for all capital-related items;
4 Whereas, Tom Morrison oversees an organization with
5 nearly 1,000 employees, and under his leadership, IU invested
6 in and delivered on a $1 billion campus renewal program that
7 has been successful in addressing the university's goal to
8 eliminate its deferred maintenance backlog by 2020, as well as
9 perform continued repairs and renovations as they arise;
10 Whereas, Tom Morrison maintains responsibility for the
11 physical infrastructure and development of IU's campuses,
12 encompassing a real estate portfolio of over 800 buildings with
13 a value of nearly $8 billion, as well as overseeing the planning
14 and construction or renovation of over 30 structures on all the
15 campuses of Indiana University;
16 Whereas, Tom Morrison has accepted a new role as vice
17 president for facilities at Duke University effective June 1, but
18 he will continue in his role at IU through the spring semester;
19 Whereas, Tom Morrison received the IU Bicentennial Medal
20 in August 2019 in recognition of his distinguished service as the
21 vice president for capital planning and facilities, and he
22 received the President's Medal for Excellence in 2021;
23 Whereas, Tom Morrison has been a dedicated employee of
24 Indiana University and has spent the last 16 years working to
25 improve the university's campuses across the state of Indiana;
26 and
27 Whereas, Tom Morrison's school colors will be changing
28 from red to blue, but he'll always be a Hoosier at heart. The
29 Indiana House of Representatives wishes him luck in his new
30 role: Therefore,
31 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
32 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
33 SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
34 honors Tom Morrison for his service to Indiana higher

1 education.
2 SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
3 Representatives shall transmit copies of this resolution to State
4 Representative Phil GiaQuinta for distribution.
