2525 A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
2626 human services.
2727 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
2828 1 SECTION 1. IC 12-7-2-177 IS AMENDED TO READ AS
2929 2 FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025]: Sec. 177. (a) "Shelter", for
3030 3 purposes of IC 12-20, means a house, a mobile home, an apartment, a
3131 4 group of rooms, or a single room that is occupied or is intended for
3232 5 occupancy as separate living quarters where the occupant or intended
3333 6 occupant:
3434 7 (1) does not live and eat with any other individual in the building;
3535 8 and
3636 9 (2) has direct access to the occupant's living quarters from the
3737 10 outside of the building or through a common hall.
3838 11 The term includes any other form of dwelling accommodation that
3939 12 the township trustee determines is safe, decent, and sanitary.
4040 13 (b) Notwithstanding subsection (a), "shelter", for purposes of
4141 14 IC 12-20-17-2, has the meaning set forth in IC 12-20-17-2.
