Synopsis:  Township shelter assistance. Amends the definition of
"shelter" to include any other form of dwelling accommodation that the
township trustee determines is safe, decent, and sanitary.

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
human services.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
1 SECTION 1. IC 12-7-2-177 IS AMENDED TO READ AS
2 FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025]: Sec. 177. (a) "Shelter", for
3 purposes of IC 12-20, means a house, a mobile home, an apartment, a
4 group of rooms, or a single room that is occupied or is intended for
5 occupancy as separate living quarters where the occupant or intended
6 occupant:
7 (1) does not live and eat with any other individual in the building;
8 and
9 (2) has direct access to the occupant's living quarters from the
10 outside of the building or through a common hall.
11 The term includes any other form of dwelling accommodation that
12 the township trustee determines is safe, decent, and sanitary.
13 (b) Notwithstanding subsection (a), "shelter", for purposes of
14 IC 12-20-17-2, has the meaning set forth in IC 12-20-17-2.
