Summary of Legislation: This bill allows a firefighting apparatus owned or operated by a political
subdivision or volunteer fire department to be equipped with signal lamps that are capable of displaying
flashing, rotating, or oscillating beams of red and blue lights. (Current law allows a firefighting apparatus
to display red or red and white lights.)
Effective Date:  July 1, 2025.

Explanation of Local Expenditures: Signal Lamps: The bill allows a fire department to own and operate
signal lamps that are capable of displaying flashing, rotating, or oscillating beams of red and blue lights. The
bill’s requirements are within the agency’s routine administrative functions and should be able to be
implemented with no additional appropriations, assuming near customary agency staffing and resource levels.
