CLARK , read first time and referred to Committee on 2025 RC 1526/DI BB Introduced First Regular Session 124th General Assembly (2025) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Calleigh 2 Neal for being named Distinguished Young Woman of Indiana 3 for 2025. 4 Whereas, Calleigh Neal is a senior at Avon High School 5 (AHS), where she serves as student body president, an officer 6 in DECA and the Avon Youth Civic Engagement Council, and 7 member of the National Honor Society and National Spanish 8 Honor Society; 9 Whereas, Calleigh is also a four-year member of the AHS 10 girls golf team and has letters in golf, academics, DECA, and 11 show choir, all while maintaining a ranking in the top one 12 percent of her class throughout her high school career; 13 Whereas, Outside of her grueling school schedule, Calleigh 14 leads Vacation Bible School, babysits, tutors younger students, 15 and enjoys music, challenging books, and lively conversation-- 16 sometimes all at the same time; 17 Whereas, Distinguished Young Women (DYW) is the oldest 18 and largest national scholarship program that promotes and 19 rewards scholastics, leadership, and talent in high-school-age 20 young women, with over 780,000 young women having 21 competed in the program at the local, state, and national levels; 22 Whereas, DYW competitions consist of five categories: 23 scholastics, interview, self-expression, fitness, and talent; 24 Whereas, In the summer of 2024, Calleigh competed in the 2025 RC 1526/DI BB 2 1 Avon DYW program, taking prizes in scholastics and interview 2 and winning the overall title; 3 Whereas, Calleigh competed in the Indiana DYW program 4 in February 2025, taking first place in scholastics, interview, 5 and self-expression, and winning the overall title to become the 6 first AHS student to win the honor of Distinguished Young 7 Woman of Indiana; 8 Whereas, Calleigh will travel to Mobile, Alabama, in June 9 to compete for Distinguished Young Woman of America and 10 spend the next year representing DYW and Indiana at 11 community events throughout the state; 12 Whereas, In addition to being Distinguished Young Woman 13 of Indiana, Calleigh is, among other honors, the reigning 14 Optimist International Oratorical World Champion, a National 15 Merit Finalist, a United States Presidential Scholars candidate, 16 and one of two Indiana delegates for the highly selective United 17 States Senate Youth Program; and 18 Whereas, It is fitting to recognize a young woman who, 19 through her academic excellence, extensive community 20 engagement, and exceptional potential, is truly distinguished: 21 Therefore, 22 Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly 23 of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives 24 concurring: 25 SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly 26 congratulates Calleigh Neal for being named Distinguished 27 Young Woman of Indiana for 2025. 28 SECTION 2.
