SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MR. PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION to honor Senator David
2 Vinzant upon his retirement.
3 Whereas, Senator David Vinzant faithfully and honorably
4 served the constituents of Senate District 3, encompassing
5 portions of Lake County, including Gary, Lake Station, New
6 Chicago, Hobart, Ainsworth, and Merrillville;
7 Whereas, Senator Vinzant served as Ranking Minority
8 Member for the Committees on Homeland Security and
9 Transportation and Veterans Affairs and The Military and he
10 was a member of the committees on Commerce and
11 Technology, Pensions and Labor, Public Policy, and Utilities;
12 Whereas, Senator Vinzant graduated from Hobart High
13 School and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in
14 Accounting and Finance from Purdue University;
15 Whereas, Senator Vinzant's entrepreneurship and passion
16 for public service would lead him to obtain his Indiana Real
17 Estate Broker's license and to begin purchasing and
18 remodeling homes in the cities of Gary and Lake Station. He
19 graduated from Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses

1 Program at Harold Washington College and taught himself
2 computer programming. He would also establish Vinzant
3 Software in 1988 and grow into the enterprise-scheduling
4 arena in 1997, ensuring that clients needs were accurately and
5 appropriately met;
6 Whereas, Senator Vinzant served on Hobart's Plan
7 Commission as Secretary and Vice President and as Hobart's
8 Fourth District City Councilman for 16 years. He served as a
9 Board Member for the Hobart Chamber of Commerce,
10 Treasurer of Hobart's Industrial Economic Development
11 Corporation, President of the Hobart Educational Foundation,
12 Democratic Precinct Committeeman, and as a delegate to the
13 Democratic Convention at both the state and national level;
14 Whereas, Senator Vinzant was an associate member of the
15 United Steelworkers Union and awarded the "Service to Labor"
16 award from the Northwest Indiana Building and Construction
17 Trades Council. He served as the Indiana Advisory Committee
18 Member for the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition working to
19 solve the Southlake Mall Tax Assessment issue for Hobart and
20 Merrillville; and
21 Whereas, Senator Vinzant is married to his wife, Leni, and
22 has 2 stepchildren, and they have 3 grandchildren: Therefore,
23 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
24 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
25 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honors Senator
26 David Vinzant.
27 SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby
28 directed to transmit one copy of this Resolution to Senator
29 David Vinzant.
