SENATE RESOLUTION ____
MR. PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
1 A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Bonnie McNair and
2 Lauren Hackert.
3 Whereas, Bonnie McNair and Lauren Hackert have served
4 the public for twenty years and eight years at the Vigo County
5 Public Library, respectively;
6 Whereas, After struggling with diabetes for a large part of
7 her life, Bonnie was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease that
8 aggressively progressed from stage 3b to stage 5, and in May
9 2022, Bonnie started dialysis and began searching for a kidney
10 donor;
11 Whereas, In July 2023, Lauren determined to undergo a
12 lengthy screening process to help Bonnie achieve a new lease
13 on life and found she was a blood-type and tissue-type match
14 for Bonnie;
15 Whereas, In February 2024, surgery was scheduled for
16 Lauren to donate a kidney to Bonnie;
17 Whereas, A year later, both are doing very well and, with
18 their successful story, have become advocates for organ

1 donation and the thousands of individuals still waiting for an
2 organ match; and
3 Whereas, The hard work and dedication of librarians like
4 Bonnie and Lauren, whose donation of life and steadfastness in
5 continuing to work through their hardships and recoveries
6 embodies the selfless and gifting nature of librarians
7 throughout the state of Indiana: Therefore,
8 Be it resolved by the Senate of the
9 General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
10 SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate honors Bonnie
11 McNair and Lauren Hackert for their advocacy for the issue of
12 organ donation, and recognizes Lauren's selfless act.
13 SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Indiana Senate is hereby
14 directed to send copies of this Resolution to Bonnie McNair
15 and Lauren Hackert.
