SENATE RESOLUTION No. 1731 A RESOLUTION supporting the strengthening of Kansas' trade partnership with Ireland to create a more prosperous future for all. WHEREAS, According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 11.3% of Kansas' population is of Irish ancestry, compared to the national average of 9.7%; and WHEREAS, Irish immigrants in the United States helped form the cultural foundation of the nation; and WHEREAS, The ties that bind Ireland and Kansas are deep and lasting; and WHEREAS, Thanks to those close ties, both Kansas and Ireland have benefited from deep and extensive cultural and commercial exchanges; and WHEREAS, Ireland currently ranks 38 th on Kansas exports, illustrating a need to create a stronger trade partnership. Although the work may be difficult, it surely will be worthwhile; and WHEREAS, It is in the best interest of Kansas and Ireland to support efforts to strengthen their relationship: Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Kansas: That we support the strengthening of Kansas' trade partnership with Ireland to create a more prosperous future for all; and Be it further resolved: That we recognize the deputy chairman of the Irish Senate, Mark Daly, for his efforts to promote trade with Kansas and his support of an Irish-Kansas trade commission; and Be it further resolved: That the Secretary of the Senate shall send an enrolled copy of this resolution to Mark Daly, deputy chairman of the Irish Senate, and Senator Erickson.
