SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 52

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership seminars and
to recognize June 3, 2011, as Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Day in the state of
Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Hugh O'Brian, the Hollywood star who portrayed Wyatt Earp in the
television series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp", founded the Hugh O'Brian Youth
Leadership Foundation in 1958; and
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation, also known as HOBY,
organizes and promotes annual leadership seminars for thousands of high school sophomores
throughout the United States and abroad; and
WHEREAS, the objectives of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program are to
seek out, recognize, develop, and reward leadership potential in high school students, to
encourage and assist young people in their quests for self-identification and
self-development, to host workshops for young people with recognized leaders in business,
industry, government, science, and education, and to stimulate opportunities for young
people to demonstrate their leadership abilities for the benefit of their communities and their
country; and
WHEREAS, to date, more than three hundred fifty-five thousand students have
completed the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership seminars and
does hereby recognize June 3, 2011, as Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Day in the state of

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Cindy
Bishop and Nial Patel, co-chairpersons of the Louisiana HOBY Leadership Seminar, and to
Hugh O'Brian.
