SCHOOLS: Requires BESE to assist school governing authorities relative to reimbursement
of certain school-based health care services and to identify funding sources relative
to electronic health reports for students 
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:7(33), relative to the powers and duties of the State Board of Elementary2
and Secondary Education; to require the board to assist governing authorities in3
maximizing reimbursement of certain school-based health care services; to identify4
certain funding sources in order to create and maintain electronic health reports; and5
to provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1.  R.S. 17:7(33) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8
ยง7.  Duties, functions, and responsibilities of board9
In addition to the authorities granted by R.S. 17:6 and any powers, duties, and10
responsibilities vested by any other applicable laws, the board shall:11

(33) In collaboration with the Department of Health and Hospitals, assist13
school governing authorities in maximizing reimbursement of all eligible school-14
based health care services through state and federal health care programs for15
children.  The board shall additionally identify any state or federal grants and other16
external funding sources available to support public schools in creating and17

Abstract: Requires BESE to assist school governing authorities in maximizing
reimbursement of certain school-based health care services and to identify certain
funding sources relative to electronic health reports for students.
Present law provides for the powers and duties of the State Board of Elementary and
Secondary Education (BESE). Proposed law adds to present law a requirement that BESE
collaborate with the Dept. of Health and Hospitals to assist school governing authorities in
maximizing reimbursement of all eligible school-based health care services through state and
federal health care programs for children. Additionally requires BESE to identify any state
or federal grants and other external funding sources available to support public schools in
creating and maintaining electronic health reports for students.
