HLS 12RS-2659 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 101 BY REPRESENTATIVE GAINES TRANSPORTATION: Urges and requests DOTD to place a crosswalk on a highway A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the2 possible installation of crosswalks controlled by "walk" and "do not walk" indicators3 at two intersections in LaPlace, Louisiana.4 WHEREAS, arterial roads that serve commercial development in suburban and5 metropolitan areas are often very wide and busy; and6 WHEREAS, these roads are usually unfriendly to pedestrian travel, but still generate7 pedestrian trips by citizens who do not have other transportation alternatives; and8 WHEREAS, often the traffic signals on these wide arterials cannot provide for9 enough time for pedestrians to cross the intersections before conflicting traffic moments10 begin and crosswalks; and11 WHEREAS, US 61 at Belle Terre Boulevard and US 61 at Carrollwood Drive in12 LaPlace, Louisiana, are two such intersections where it is difficult for pedestrians to cross;13 and14 WHEREAS, a number of grocery stores, restaurants, and businesses are on one side15 of US 61 and residential areas and schools are on the other side of US 61; and16 WHEREAS, a number of pedestrians have been struck by vehicles while attempting17 to cross these intersections and foot traffic increases daily.18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby19 request that the Department of Transportation and Development study the possibility of the20 HLS 12RS-2659 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 101 Page 2 of 2 installation of crosswalks with "walk" and "do not walk" indicators at US 61 at Belle Terre1 Boulevard and US 61 at Carrollwood Drive in LaPlace, Louisiana.2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the3 secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.4 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
