HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 101
BY REPRESENTATIVE GAINES
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the
possible installation of crosswalks controlled by "walk" and "do not walk" indicators
at two intersections in LaPlace, Louisiana.
WHEREAS, arterial roads that serve commercial development in suburban and
metropolitan areas are often very wide and busy; and
WHEREAS, these roads are usually unfriendly to pedestrian travel, but still generate
pedestrian trips by citizens who do not have other transportation alternatives; and
WHEREAS, often the traffic signals on these wide arterials cannot provide for
enough time for pedestrians to cross the intersections before conflicting traffic moments
begin and crosswalks; and
WHEREAS, US 61 at Belle Terre Boulevard and US 61 at Carrollwood Drive in
LaPlace, Louisiana, are two such intersections where it is difficult for pedestrians to cross;
and
WHEREAS, a number of grocery stores, restaurants, and businesses are on one side
of US 61 and residential areas and schools are on the other side of US 61; and
WHEREAS, a number of pedestrians have been struck by vehicles while attempting
to cross these intersections and foot traffic increases daily.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
request that the Department of Transportation and Development study the possibility of the
installation of crosswalks with "walk" and "do not walk" indicators at US 61 at Belle Terre
Boulevard and US 61 at Carrollwood Drive in LaPlace, Louisiana. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 101
