ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 101 BY REPRESENTATIVE GAINES A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the possible installation of crosswalks controlled by "walk" and "do not walk" indicators at two intersections in LaPlace, Louisiana. WHEREAS, arterial roads that serve commercial development in suburban and metropolitan areas are often very wide and busy; and WHEREAS, these roads are usually unfriendly to pedestrian travel, but still generate pedestrian trips by citizens who do not have other transportation alternatives; and WHEREAS, often the traffic signals on these wide arterials cannot provide for enough time for pedestrians to cross the intersections before conflicting traffic moments begin and crosswalks; and WHEREAS, US 61 at Belle Terre Boulevard and US 61 at Carrollwood Drive in LaPlace, Louisiana, are two such intersections where it is difficult for pedestrians to cross; and WHEREAS, a number of grocery stores, restaurants, and businesses are on one side of US 61 and residential areas and schools are on the other side of US 61; and WHEREAS, a number of pedestrians have been struck by vehicles while attempting to cross these intersections and foot traffic increases daily. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby request that the Department of Transportation and Development study the possibility of the installation of crosswalks with "walk" and "do not walk" indicators at US 61 at Belle Terre Boulevard and US 61 at Carrollwood Drive in LaPlace, Louisiana.
