SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 67

A RESOLUTION
To commend Diane Vickers for her selection by the Louisiana Association of Educators to
receive its 2013 Teacher Image Award.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and congratulate Diane Vickers upon her
selection to receive the 2013 Teacher Image Award from the Louisiana Association of
Educators, an annual award that honors superior teaching standards, community
involvement, and leadership; and
WHEREAS, Miss Vickers is a twenty- three year veteran classroom teacher, currently
teaching a Primary Montessori class at the Dufrocq School in East Baton Rouge Parish
composed of preschool, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten students; and
WHEREAS, although her classroom rules of "Quiet Voices, Listening Ears, Walking
Feet, Helping Hands, and Looking Eyes" may provide the structure for instruction, her
creative and innovative teaching style can be seen in the varied activities she provides for
her "Dufrocq Ducklings" including fields trips to the Aquarium of the Americas, dance
classes, outings to museums, Ellis Hugh, the "Elf on the Shelf", a "100

Day of School"
celebration, Valentine boxes, and an Easter Egg Hunt; and
WHEREAS, although she is a self-professed LSU sports fan, it is abundantly evident
that the largest share of her time, energy, and talents is focused on her students; and
WHEREAS, as a result of her unwavering commitment to her students, Ms. Vickers
enjoys the respect and high regard of her colleagues, her students, and their parents; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Maria Montessori, whose educational principles of creating the
"prepared environment" to promote self-directed learning, thus building a student's self-
confidence and promoting academic achievement, would recognize Diane Vickers as a

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby most sincerely commend and congratulate Diane Vickers for her selection by
the Louisiana Association of Educators to receive its 2013 Teacher Image Award.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Diane
Vickers.
