PORTS/SOUTH LOUISIANA: Increases the membership of the Port of South Louisiana
Commission
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 34:2471(A)(introductory paragraph), (6), (7), and (8) and to2
enact R.S. 34:2471(A)(9), relative to the Port of South Louisiana Commission; to3
increase the membership on the commission; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 34:2471(A)(introductory paragraph), (6), (7), and (8) are hereby6
amended and reenacted and R.S. 34:2471(A)(9) is hereby enacted to read as follows:7
ยง2471.  Creation; membership8
A. There is hereby created the Port of South Louisiana, as a political9
subdivision of the state, with jurisdictional authority encompassing the geographical10
boundaries of the parishes of St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, and St. James.  The11
Port of South Louisiana shall be governed by a board 	of seven members who shall12
be appointed as follows:13

(6) Two members shall be appointed by the governor at his sole discretion.15
(7) From the nominees submitted to the governor for appointment he shall16
select one resident from each parish located within the territorial jurisdiction of the17
port, one of whom may, instead of residency, be the chief executive officer of a18

(7) (8) Each appointment shall be submitted to the Senate for confirmation.1
(8) (9) The terms of all commissioners shall be concurrent with that of the2
governor. Any subsequent vacancy on the commission for any reason shall be filled3
for the unexpired portion of the term in the same manner as the original appointment.4

Committee Amendments Proposed by House Committee on Transportation, Highways
and Public Works to the original bill.
1. Removed a provision that increased the membership of the Port of South
Louisiana Commission from seven to eleven by adding three members appointed
by the governor and one at-large member.
2. Increased the number of members of the Port of South Louisiana Commission
from seven to nine by providing two additional members appointed by the
governor at his sole discretion.
3. Made technical changes.
