ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 103 BY REPRESENTATIVES HONORE AND JAMES AND SENATOR GALLOT A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend Cameron Murray upon achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and celebrate the accomplishments of Cameron Murray of Boy Scouts of America Troop 103 on the memorable and historic occasion of his attainment of the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout; and WHEREAS, the purpose of Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by the United States Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness; and WHEREAS, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Scouting, a Boy Scout must fulfill all requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills, and the Eagle Scout must earn twenty-one merit badges which signify the mastery of Scoutcraft skills, including Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, and Citizenship in the World; and WHEREAS, in addition to the merit badges Cameron Murray has earned and his involvement in scouting for eleven years, Cameron is a honor roll student at Catholic High School where Cameron is a junior and a member of the wrestling team; Cameron is also a member of Jack & Jill of America; and WHEREAS, Cameron Murray plans to attend the Standford University Law Program for high school students this summer and after high school he plans to attend Yale to earn a degree in political science and eventually a law degree; and WHEREAS, only a small percentage of Boy Scouts earn the Eagle Scout rank, illustrating that it takes a uniquely motivated young man like Cameron Murray to strive to embody the five integral responsibilities of an Eagle Scout, which are honor, loyalty, courage, cheer, and service; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 103 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, presented with his Eagle Scout badge, Cameron Murray joins the ranks of such esteemed and respected Eagle Scouts as the Honorable Gerald R. Ford, the thirty- eighth President of the United States, Captain James Lovell, the commander of the Apollo 13 space flight, and acclaimed film-maker Steven Spielberg; and WHEREAS, the legacy of the Boy Scouts of America is rich indeed, for it not only includes a history of service and proud citizenship which spans nearly a century, but it includes the momentous and singular accomplishments of Cameron Murray, who is recognized and commended for his deep human values, the genuine spirit of good fellowship he inspires, and his service as a fine example of hard work and integrity in the eyes of future Eagle Scouts and his entire community. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that on the celebrated and historic occasion of his attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout, the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and honor Cameron Murray upon achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, express utmost gratitude and respect for the exemplary strides he has taken as a scout and as a citizen, does hereby congratulate Cameron Murray and the members and leaders of Troop 103 as they commemorate this most significant and unforgettable event when Cameron pledges his eternal loyalty to the code of the Eagle Scout, and does hereby wish Cameron and his entire family full measures of happiness and success in all of their future endeavors.
