SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes Thursday, April 10, 2014, as Baton Rouge
Parliamentarians Day
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize Thursday, April 10, 2014, as Baton Rouge Parliamentarians Day.2
WHEREAS, since April is the birth month of Thomas Jefferson, the author of the3
first American manual of parliamentary procedure which was published in 1801, it is4
appropriate to honor his legacy and celebrate the use of parliamentary procedure throughout5
the entire month; and6
WHEREAS, it is fitting to honor Henry Martyn Robert, the author of Pocket Manual7
of Rules of Order for Deliberative Assemblies, also known as "Robert's Rules of Order"; and8
WHEREAS, "Robert's Rules of Order" is the most widely recognized and used9
parliamentary authority in public and private organizations; and10
WHEREAS, it is timely to reflect upon the importance of parliamentary procedure11
in providing for civil discourse, protecting individual rights, ensuring fairness, and12
maintaining order in meetings; and13
WHEREAS, it is an exciting time to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Baton14
Rouge Unit of Parliamentarians, which was chartered on April 17, 1984; and15
WHEREAS, the Baton Rouge Unit of Parliamentarians is a professional society16
dedicated to educating leaders throughout our state in effective meeting management17
through the use of parliamentary procedure; and18
WHEREAS, the National Association of Parliamentarians has designated the month19

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the1
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Thursday, April 10, 2014, as Baton Rouge2
Parliamentarians Day and does hereby welcome the members and participants of the Baton3
Rouge Unit of Parliamentarians to the state capitol.4
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted5
to the president of the Baton Rouge Unit of Parliamentarians.6
