Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 108 BY SENATOR PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To commend the Parkway High School JROTC Cyber Team on placing in the top one percent at the CyberPatriot VI National Finals. WHEREAS, the JROTC Cyber Team from Parkway High School in Bossier City made the nation take notice when the six members of the LA-071 placed in the top one percent in the CyberPatriot VI National Finals, which were held March 26-30 in National Harbor, Maryland; and WHEREAS, competing against other All-Service cyber teams, the Parkway team garnered the attention of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who showed personal interest in their cyber security abilities; and WHEREAS, teams competed to secure and defend virtual networks and mobile networks from a professional aggressor team and faced off in three additional challenges; and WHEREAS, after all four cyber competitions, the Parkway LA-071 JROTC Cyber Team ranked in the top one percent; and WHEREAS, the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition is a one-of-a-kind cyber defense competition established by the Air Force Association; and WHEREAS, this competition is designed to inspire students to consider science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields in their studies; and WHEREAS, the Northrop Grumman Foundation is the presenting sponsor of the CyberPatriot National Finals and a particularly insightful moment occurred during the competition when Northrop Grumman executives stated publicly they would hire each of the students today because of their advanced knowledge in the field of cyber security; and WHEREAS, the students' performance reiterates the value the competition can bring to potential cyber employers coming to the Shreveport area; and SR NO. 108 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, team members are Austin Carr, Chas Chapman, Josh Hardacre, John Metz, Team Captain Jasper Sinagra and Brian Thiessen and MSgt. Bob O'Brien serves as coach of the team. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the Parkway High School JROTC Cyber Team upon placing in the top one percent in competition at the CyberPatriot VI National Finals held in National Harbor, Maryland. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to MSgt. Bob O'Brien on behalf of the Parkway High School JROTC Cyber Team PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
