WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the death of Staff Sergeant Lance Jacob Bergeron, who was killed in dutiful service to his country when his UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed during a nighttime exercise in Florida; and WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bergeron was a devoted husband and loving father, and he truly cherished his family; he found joy in Black Hawk helicopters, LSU football and baseball, and in watching New York Yankee's baseball games; and Page 1 of 3 HCR NO. 61 ENROLLED WHEREAS, heeding the call of his country, Lance Jacob Bergeron enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on December 30, 1993, and served on active duty for four years; on August 24, 2001, he enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard and was assigned to the 812th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) in New Orleans with the military occupational speciality 15T, UH-60 Helicopter Repairer; his most recent assignment was with Company A, 1st Assault Helicopter Battalion, 244th Aviation Regiment in Hammond; on February 24, 2002, Staff Sergeant Bergeron became a full-time Flight Engineer (Instructor) at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Hammond; and WHEREAS, throughout his prominent military career, Staff Sergeant Bergeron was deployed in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a UH-60 Helicopter Repairer; and WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bergeron served in the Louisiana Army National Guard with great courage and valor as evidenced by his receipt of numerous awards and decorations, some of which include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Senior Aviation Badge, the Combat Action Badge, the Louisiana War Cross, the Louisiana Emergency Service Medal, the Louisiana General Excellence Ribbon, and the Louisiana Longevity Ribbon; and WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bergeron was a brother, son, and friend to many and a hero to all; and WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Bergeron's passion for his country and community will forever remain in the hearts and minds of his loving wife, Monique Gauthreaux Bergeron; his daughter, Callie; his son, Landon; his parents, Mark and Stella Bergeron; his sister, Melanie Happel; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Wanda Gauthreaux; his nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and military family; and WHEREAS, the sacrifices made by the great men and women who protect and defend the United States and its citizens must always be acknowledged by those who are left behind to honor their memory; and WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature of Louisiana records for posterity the extraordinary dedication and commitment to his country that Staff Sergeant Bergeron displayed throughout his life and in the performance of his military service. Page 2 of 3 HCR NO. 61 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its condolences and most heartfelt sorrow to the family of Staff Sergeant Lance Jacob Bergeron and does hereby acknowledge and record for posterity the unique and special contributions of Staff Sergeant Bergeron to the city of Hammond, to the state of Louisiana, and to the United States of America. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of Staff Sergeant Lance Jacob Bergeron.
