HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 167
BY REPRESENTATIVE HALL
A RESOLUTION
To commend Shirley Yvonne Cole Williams upon her retirement from Rapides Parish
Schools.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Shirley Yvonne Cole Williams upon her
retirement from Rapides Parish Schools after thirty-four years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Williams is a 1974 graduate of Peabody School, now known as
Peabody Magnet High School, in Alexandria, Louisiana; she graduated a semester ahead of
her high school class and enrolled at Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical
College in Baton Rouge in January of 1974; and
WHEREAS, on May 8, 1978, she graduated from Southern University and
Agricultural and Mechanical College with a bachelor of science degree in business
education; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Williams worked for Rapides Bank, the Tioga Branch, for two
years before securing a position as a business education teacher at Tioga High School for the
1980-1981 school year; during the 1981-1982 school year, she taught business education at
Buckeye High School; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Williams moved into the special education field and secured a dual
teaching certificate after completing the requirements from Northwestern State University
in Natchitoches in 1984; and
WHEREAS, during the fall of 1983 until the fall of 2005, Ms. Williams taught
special education at Bolton High School; during her twenty-two year tenure at Bolton High
School, Ms. Williams completed a comprehensive mentor training program and until 2005,
she served as a teacher mentor helping to train beginner teachers; she also wrote and
implemented a business education curriculum and taught keyboarding and income tax
preparation to students with learning disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Williams left an incredible mark at Bolton High School by serving
as LEAD teacher in the special education department for many years; and
WHEREAS, from January of 2006 until December of 2006, Ms. Williams taught at
Peabody Magnet High School; and
WHEREAS, from 2007 until May 21, 2015, Ms. Williams served as the LEAD
teacher for the special education department at Arthur F. Smith Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Williams is the loving mother of Terrence Williams and Michael
Williams; the mother-in-law of Tanya; and a proud grandmother; and
WHEREAS, she is an active member of Zion Hill Church in Pineville; and
WHEREAS, upon her retirement after thirty-four wonderful years of service to
Rapides Parish Schools, it is appropriate to commend Shirley Yvonne Cole Williams.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Shirley Yvonne Cole Williams upon her
retirement from Rapides Parish Schools after thirty-four years of dedicated service and does
hereby extend to her best wishes for continued success in her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Shirley Yvonne Cole Williams.
