Requests study of the feasibility of establishing a process for members with physical disabilities to remotely cast committee and floor votes. 1 A STUDY REQUEST 2 To the Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs to study the feasibility of 3 establishing a process for members with physical disabilities to remotely cast their 4 vote in a committee hearing or during floor debate. 5 WHEREAS, every individual with a disability deserves equal access to all facilities 6 to insure they are able to engage as equal members of society; and 7 WHEREAS, legislators with physical disabilities deserve equal access to all areas 8 of the Capitol Building; and 9 WHEREAS, it is imperative that legislators are readily able to participate in 10 committee and floor debate; and 11 WHEREAS, there are instances in which a member of the legislature with a physical 12 disability may need the option to cast their vote remotely for a committee or floor debate; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, procedures to accommodate members of the legislature with a physical 15 disability would serve the public, and citizens across Louisiana could benefit by witnessing 16 their legislator participating directly in addressing the many problems of the state without 17 any hardship or interruption in their service. 18 THEREFORE, the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana requests that the Page 1 of 2 SSR NO. 1 SLS 15RS-829 ORIGINAL 1 Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs study the feasibility of establishing a 2 process for members with physical disabilities to remotely cast their vote in a committee 3 hearing or during floor debate.
