2015 Regular Session APPROVED SENATE STUDY REQUEST NO. 1 BY SENATOR DORSEY-COLOMB A STUDY REQUEST To the Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs to study the feasibility of establishing a process for members with physical disabilities to remotely cast their vote in a committee hearing or during floor debate. WHEREAS, every individual with a disability deserves equal access to all facilities to insure they are able to engage as equal members of society; and WHEREAS, legislators with physical disabilities deserve equal access to all areas of the Capitol Building; and WHEREAS, it is imperative that legislators are readily able to participate in committee and floor debate; and WHEREAS, there are instances in which a member of the legislature with a physical disability may need the option to cast their vote remotely for a committee or floor debate; and WHEREAS, procedures to accommodate members of the legislature with a physical disability would serve the public, and citizens across Louisiana could benefit by witnessing their legislator participating directly in addressing the many problems of the state without any hardship or interruption in their service. THEREFORE, the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana requests that the Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs study the feasibility of establishing a process for members with physical disabilities to remotely cast their vote in a committee hearing or during floor debate.
