HLS 16RS-1236 ENGROSSED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE BILL NO. 641 BY REPRESENTATIVES GISCLAIR, CARPENTER, FRANKLIN, GUINN, HILL, HOWARD, MARCELLE, NORTON, PIERRE, AND POPE TRANSPORTATION: Exempts World War II veterans from payment of tolls at the Tomey J. Doucet Bridge 1 AN ACT 2To enact R.S. 47:820.5.9, relative to exemption from toll payment on the Tomey J. Doucet 3 Bridge; to provide for free and unhampered passage on the Tomey J. Doucet Bridge 4 for World War II veterans; and to provide for related matters. 5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 47:820.5.9 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง820.5.9. Free and unhampered passage on the Tomey J. Doucet Bridge; World War 8 II Veterans 9 A. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, a World War 10 II veteran shall be exempt from the payment of tolls when crossing the Tomey J. 11 Doucet Bridge when the veteran purchases an exempt toll tag, presents a certificate 12 of motor vehicle registration, presents a copy of military records verifying service 13 during World War II and any one of the following as proof of residency: 14 (1) An official Louisiana driver's license. 15 (2) Proof of homestead exemption. 16 (3) A voter registration card. 17 B. The Department of Transportation and Development shall, in accordance 18 with the Administrative Procedure Act, adopt rules and regulations for the efficient 19 implementation and enforcement of the provisions of this Section. Proposed law exempts a World War II veteran from the payment of tolls on the Tomey J. Doucet Bridge when the veteran has purchased an exempt toll tag and presents a certificate of motor vehicle registration, a copy of military records verifying service during World War II and any one of the following as proof of residency: (1) an official La. driver's license; (2) proof of homestead exemption; and (3) a voter registration card. Proposed law requires the Dept. of Transportation and Development to adopt rules and regulations in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act to efficiently implement and enforce the provisions of proposed law.
