ENROLLED 2016 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 160 BY REPRESENTATIVES JEFFERSON AND MCFARLAND A RESOLUTION To commend Ringgold native Azariya McClendon upon her graduation from both high school and college on May 13, 2016. WHEREAS, seventeen-year-old Azariya McClendon received her associate's degree from Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) and graduated from Ringgold High School on the same day, Friday, May 13, 2016; and WHEREAS, Azariya is the first to accomplish this goal in the Bienville Parish school system; and WHEREAS, Ms. McClendon completed the dual enrollment program through BPCC while attending Ringgold High School; she began her college career as a high school freshman and completed her high school curriculum as a sophomore; and WHEREAS, Azariya McClendon graduates high school as class valedictorian with a 3.9 GPA; she was active in 4-H, a member of the Beta Club, ELITES, FBLA, FFA, and was on the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Council Advisory Board; and WHEREAS, Azariya McClendon played basketball, softball, and was a cheerleader, yet she successfully managed her time for high school and college; and WHEREAS, despite suffering a broken hand in a car accident on her way to the first day of college at BPCC, Azariya learned how to eat, write, type, and use her non-broken hand to achieve this tremendous academic feat; and WHEREAS, Azariya plans to complete her college education at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in biology, with dreams of attending Louisiana State University-Shreveport and finishing medical school; her dual enrollment graduation is a rare and noteworthy feat, and it is fitting to honor this amazing teenager's academic graduations. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 160 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Azariya McClendon upon her graduation from both high school and college on the same day and does hereby express best wishes for continued success in life.
