SENATE BILL NO. 10

MUNICIPALITIES.  Authorizes the St. Martin Parish Assessment District to provide for an
automobile expense allowance for the assessor. (gov sig)
1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 47:1925.11, relative to the assessor in the St. Martin Parish
3 Assessment District; to authorize the assessor in such district to receive an
4 automobile expense allowance; to provide for an effective date; and to provide for
5 related matters.
6	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.
7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
8 Section 1.  R.S. 47:1925.11 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
9 ยง1925.11.  Assessment Districts in Assumption, Iberville, Lafayette, Pointe Coupee,
10	St. Martin, and Webster parishes; automobile expense allowance
11	In the Assessment Districts in Assumption, Iberville, Lafayette, Pointe
12 Coupee, St. Martin, and Webster parishes, the assessor may receive an automobile
13 expense allowance not to exceed fifteen percent of his annual salary provided the
14 assessor maintains three hundred thousand dollars of automobile insurance per
15 accident for bodily injury and one hundred thousand dollars of automobile insurance
16 per accident for property damage. The expense allowance shall come from existing
17 funds in the assessor's office and at no additional expense to the state or local

1 governing authority.
2 Section 2.  This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
3 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
4 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
5 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
6 effective on the day following such approval.

Present law authorizes an automobile expense allowance for the assessors in Assumption,
Iberville, Lafayette, Pointe Coupee, and Webster parishes.  The amount of the allowance is
not to exceed 15% of the assessors' annual salary and shall be payable out of existing funds
of the assessors' office at no additional expense to the state or local governing authority,
provided the assessors maintain $300,000 of automobile insurance per accident for bodily
injury and $100,000 of automobile insurance per accident for property damage.
Proposed law retains present law as it relates to the assessors of Assumption, Iberville,
Lafayette, Pointe Coupee, and Webster parishes but adds authorization for the assessor in
St. Martin Parish to have an equivalent automobile expense allowance.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
