2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 116 BY SENATORS MORRISH AND PERRY AND REPRESENTATIVES DEVILLIER, HENSGENS, MIGUEZ AND STEFANSKI A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To urge and request the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court of Louisiana to study the feasibility of dividing the Fifteenth Judicial District into three separate judicial districts, one district to be comprised of Acadia Parish, one district to be comprised of Vermilion Parish, and one district to be comprised of Lafayette Parish. WHEREAS, there is a need to determine the feasibility of dividing the Fifteenth Judicial District, currently comprised of Acadia, Lafayette, and Vermilion parishes, into three districts, one judicial district for each parish; and WHEREAS, R.S. 13:61(B)(2) provides that before a bill is acted upon by the legislature to split courts, the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court of Louisiana shall provide information to the legislature as to council approval as to the necessity of splitting the courts; and WHEREAS, the Judicial Council has adopted determinate standards and guidelines relating to the splitting of judicial districts which are applied by the council in determining whether to approve the necessity of splitting a judicial district. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court of Louisiana to study the feasibility of dividing the Fifteenth Judicial District into three separate districts, one judicial district to be comprised of Acadia Parish, one district to be comprised of Vermilion Parish, and one district comprised of Lafayette Parish, and to make its recommendation to the legislature on or before January 12, 2018. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the judicial administrator of the Supreme Court of Louisiana.
