2018 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 178 BY SENATOR WALSWORTH 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 14:95.9(C)(8), relative to wearing or possessing body armor on school 3 property; to allow students to carry or wear a backpack with bullet resistant material; 4 and to provide for related matters. 5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 14:95.9(C)(8) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง95.9. Wearing or possessing body armor, by a student or nonstudent on school 8 property, at school-sponsored functions, or in firearm-free zones; 9 exceptions 10 * * * 11 C. The provisions of this Section shall not apply to: 12 * * * 13 (8) A student wearing, carrying, or possessing a backpack on school 14 property or a school bus that has bullet-resistant metal or other material 15 intended to provide protection from weapons or bodily injury. 16 * * * 17 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 18 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 19 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.
