R.S. 17:348(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 ยง348. Louisiana Schools for the Deaf and Visually Impaired; Louisiana Special 8 Education Center; year-round operation; continuing service 9 * * * 10 B. Special educational services at the Louisiana Special Education Center 11 may be continued to be provided until the thirty-second birthday the age determined 12 by the Louisiana Department of Health for individuals with severe physically 13 handicapping conditions who are receiving work skill training and who have not 14 reached employable proficiency by their twenty-second birthday, subject to the 15 approval of the superintendent of the Special School District and subject to the 16 availability of funds. Special Education Center. Present law authorizes the Bd. of Elementary and Secondary Education to provide special education services at the La. Special Education Center in Alexandria when it is determined to be in the best interest of the student. Present law authorizes continuing special educational services at the center until the 32nd birthday for individuals who have not reached employable proficiency by their 22nd birthday. Specifies that such authority is subject to approval of the superintendent of the Special School District and availability of funds. Present law provides for licensing of the center by the La. Dept. of Health. Proposed law retains present law except authorizes continuing services until an age determined by the center's licensure provided by the Louisiana Department of Health instead of the 32nd birthday.
