NURSES/REGISTERED:  Grants advanced practice registered nurses signature authority
on matters within their scope of practice
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 37:936, relative to advanced practice registered nurses; to authorize such
3 nurses to furnish signatures and other types of endorsements required of physicians
4 in certain instances; to provide conditions upon which such signature authority is
5 contingent; and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 37:936 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง936.  Advanced practice registered nurses; signature authority
9	A.  If a provision of law or administrative rule requires a signature,
10 certification, stamp, verification, affidavit, or endorsement by a physician, the
11 requirement may be fulfilled by an advanced practice registered nurse practicing
12 within his scope of practice unless prohibited by the terms of a collaborative practice
13 agreement to which the nurse is a party.
14	B.  Nothing in this Section shall be construed to expand the scope of practice
15 of an advanced practice registered nurse.

Abstract:  Grants advanced practice registered nurses signature authority on matters within
their scope of practice unless prohibited by a collaborative practice agreement.
Proposed law provides that if a provision of present law or present administrative rule
requires a signature, certification, stamp, verification, affidavit, or endorsement by a
physician, the requirement may be fulfilled by an advanced practice registered nurse
practicing within his scope of practice unless prohibited by the terms of a collaborative
practice agreement to which the nurse is a party.
Proposed law stipulates that nothing therein shall be construed to expand the scope of
practice of an advanced practice registered nurse.
