ENROLLED 2019 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 16 BY REPRESENTATIVE JEFFERSON A RESOLUTION To commend Grambling State University students, the Division of Academic Affairs, the Division of Student Affairs, and President Richard J. Gallot, Jr., for their outstanding achievements and their service to the university and the state of Louisiana. WHEREAS, Kerwan Antoine, Jumel Jno Baptiste, Niana Celestine, Nakiaus Glosson, Casey Henry, Sherdica Moses, Arlanda Nunsett, Faith Pittman, Jarrid Richards, Maurice Tandy-Patton, Gary White, Adarian Williams, and Ross Wise are all exceptional students at Grambling State University who deserve recognition for their numerous accomplishments; and WHEREAS, Adarian Williams, a native of Ruston, Louisiana, and a senior majoring in vocal music and theater, demonstrates outstanding leadership as the second two-term Student Government Association president in the university’s history, serving the Tiger community as a member of the Louisiana Board of Regents, the Louisiana Council of Student Body Presidents, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the Sponsored Programs Committee of the Louisiana Board of Regents; and WHEREAS, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, junior and mass communication major Maurice Tandy-Patton was named Student Broadcaster of the Year for 2019 by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters for his hard work and long hours as an on-air announcer at KGRM, the campus radio station; the awards recognize outstanding achievements by Louisiana radio and television broadcasters; and WHEREAS, out of fourteen teams from Grambling State University, Jarrid Richards, Kerwan Antoine, and Casey Henry won the Golden Pitch Competition sponsored by BRF’s Entrepreneurial Accelerator Program; the competition is geared towards helping prospective entrepreneurs hone their business skills; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 16 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Gary White, Niana Celestine, and Nakiaus Glosson earned first-place honors and the $10,000 prize for their pilot work in healthcare technology mobile applications in the 2018 Bayou Classic BizTech Challenge business model competition, which is sponsored by NexusLA and GE with additional support from Exxon; and WHEREAS, Arlanda Nunsett, Faith Pittman, and Niana Celestine were recognized at the 2019 Black Engineer of the Year Awards for their excellence in community service, student leadership, and academic achievement; and WHEREAS, Niana Celestine, Faith Pittman, Kerwan Antoine, Jumel Jno Baptiste, Ross Wise, and Sherdica Moses were finalists in the 2019 HBCU Battle of the Brains, a competition in which teams are composed of the top STEM and business students from historically black colleges and universities; and WHEREAS, through their success in various arenas, these students have brought pride and honor to Grambling State University and Louisiana; President Richard J. Gallot, Jr., the staff of the Division of Academic Affairs, the staff of the Division of Student Affairs, and the faculty and staff of the institution’s academic programs in computer science, engineering technology, business, theatre, accounting, and chemistry merit a sincere measure of commendation for their remarkable work in cultivating student success. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Grambling State University student leaders, the Division of Academic Affairs, the Division of Student Affairs, and President Richard J. Gallot, Jr., for their outstanding achievements and their service to the university and the state of Louisiana; does hereby recognize and record for posterity their extraordinary contributions; and does hereby wish them every measure of continued success and happiness in their future endeavors.
