2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 47 BY SENATOR MIZELL A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To commend Abby Frances Blaize upon being selected as a recipient of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School Woman of Excellence and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. WHEREAS, Abby Frances Blaize is an Honors and AP student at St. Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has a 4.5 grade point average, and will attend Case Western Reserve University, where she will major in Chemical Engineering; and WHEREAS, she is a National Merit Finalist and an AP Scholar with Distinction, and spent the summer attending leadership conferences at Northwestern University and University of California Berkley; and WHEREAS, Abby is a recipient of the 200 Hours of Service Award at St. Joseph's Academy in honor of her volunteer work in the audiology clinic at The Emerge Center, a school for developmentally delayed children; and WHEREAS, as a member of the Baton Rouge Symphony League, she worked music camps for underprivileged children and at the symphony ticket office, and she also organized data for First Three Years, an organization that provides continuing education for early childhood development specialists; and WHEREAS, Abby is also an entrepreneur with a makeup artistry business, utilizing the experience she gained from working on the makeup team of the Drama Club, and she led that team for several performances by designing looks, assigning tasks, and teaching other artists; and WHEREAS, as a result of her proficiency in makeup application, she was awarded best makeup artist in 2018; and WHEREAS, Abby is a member of the Debate Team, Spanish Club, Beta Club, and National Honor Society, and is a President's Future Leaders in Research Year Zero Award Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 47 ENROLLED winner for the 2018-2019 academic year; and WHEREAS, she also completed AP Capstone presentations regarding the economic impacts of both Sex Work and the USA Patriot Act, was elected governor in the Louisiana Youth Legislature in 2015, and was a presenter at the International Society for Technology in Education Conference in 2017 and the Louisiana Association for Computer Using Educators in 2016; and WHEREAS, Abby aspires to use her degree in Engineering to build a sustainable, inclusive, female-funded and operated makeup corporation; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are committed to community service to better society as a whole; and WHEREAS, for 2019, there are two categories for the Women of Excellence Awards: College Women of Excellence and High School Woman of Excellence; and WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2019 Women of Excellence Awards are being recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, April 30, 2019; and WHEREAS, Abby has been named a recipient of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award in the category of High School Women of Excellence and is also a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and community service; and WHEREAS, Abby merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Abby upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 47 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Abby Frances Blaize upon receipt of a 2019 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School Women of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
