2019 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 99 BY SENATOR BARROW AND REPRESENTATIVE EDMONDS A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To request the Domestic Violence Prevention Commission to study the long-term effects of domestic violence. WHEREAS, R.S. 46:2145 created the Domestic Violence Prevention Commission within the Department of Children and Family Services to, among other things, assist state leaders in developing and coordinating domestic violence programs and make recommendations with respect to domestic violence prevention and intervention; and WHEREAS, the commission is composed of twenty members who represent a broad spectrum of expertise in matters involving domestic violence; and WHEREAS, the commission is statutorily required to submit a report to the legislature on February first of each year to include any recommendations for legislation that it considers necessary and appropriate; and WHEREAS, the act of domestic violence causes many after effects, including mental and physical trauma and financial hardships that impact individuals, families, communities, and the economic stability of our state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby request the Domestic Violence Prevention Commission to study the long-term effects of domestic violence. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in conducting its study, the commission shall evaluate the long-term effects of domestic violence, including the mental and physical trauma and financial hardships that impact individuals, families, communities, and the economic stability of our state. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the commission shall include its findings and recommendations in its February 1, 2020, statutorily required report to the legislature, including whether there is any legislation that is deemed necessary and appropriate regarding this matter.
