HB 334 Original	2020 Regular Session	Fontenot
Abstract: Authorizes a concealed handgun permit holder to carry a concealed handgun in a church,
synagogue, mosque, or other similar place of worship.
Present law provides for the law by which Louisiana residents who meet certain eligibility
requirements apply for and are issued a concealed handgun permit authorizing the person to carry
a concealed handgun in the state of Louisiana.
Present law provides that a concealed handgun permit does not authorize nor entitle the permit
holder to carry a concealed handgun in a church, synagogue, mosque, or other similar place of
worship unless the entity which has authority over the place of worship authorizes the permit holder
to do so and the congregation is informed of the authorization. Present law further requires permit
holders carrying a concealed handgun in a place of worship to annually complete eight hours of
tactical training, in addition to present law training requirements for all permit holders, if such
training is required by the entity which has authority over the religious organization or by the owner
of the building's liability insurance policy.
Proposed law authorizes a concealed handgun permit holder to carry a concealed handgun in a
church, synagogue, mosque, or other similar place of worship by repealing the present law limitation
on a permit holder's authority to carry in such places.
