Requests Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and Dept. of Natural Resources to study the feasibility of using waste tire material in flood protection and coastal restoration projects. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To urge and request the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the Department 3 of Natural Resources to study the feasibility of using waste tire material in flood 4 protection and coastal restoration projects. 5 WHEREAS, waste tire material is abundant and potentially useful in flood protection 6 and coastal restoration projects; and 7 WHEREAS, waste tire material scraps have been utilized as floating coastal 8 breakwaters and in other coastal defense functions to reduce erosion and protect coastal 9 roads and structures from damage; and 10 WHEREAS, shredded waste tires have been used in constructing road embankments 11 and as below-grade fill, as material reducing vibrations for railway lines, and ground-up 12 waste tire material has also been used as road material and construction material when 13 properly mixed with asphalt or concrete; and 14 WHEREAS, waste tires and shredded waste tire material have been utilized as 15 artificial reef material for promoting fisheries, as dock bumpers, sidewalk material, roadway 16 embankments, and highway crash bumpers; and 17 WHEREAS, the potential use of waste tire and shredded waste tire material in coastal 18 restoration and other coastal projects should be studied to determine the practical and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 2 SLS 20RS-203 ORIGINAL 1 economic feasibility of the use of such materials pursuant to sound engineering and 2 environmental practices. 3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 4 urge and request the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the Department of 5 Natural Resources to study the feasibility of using waste tire material in flood protection and 6 coastal restoration projects. 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 8 executive director of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and to the secretary 9 of the Department of Natural Resources.
