2021 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 10 BY SENATOR CATHEY A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To recognize The North Face as an "Extraordinary Customer" of the Louisiana oil and gas and petrochemical industries. WHEREAS, according to the United States Energy Information Administration, petroleum products include transportation fuels, fuel oils for heating and electricity generation, asphalt and road oil, and feedstocks for making the chemicals, plastics, and synthetic materials that are in almost everything we use; and WHEREAS, the United States Department of Energy recognizes that petrochemicals derived from oil and natural gas enable the production of over six thousand everyday products and high-tech devices that are made in the United States and across the globe; and WHEREAS, specific examples of common products made with oil and gas include fuels, cleaners, tools, plastics, sports equipment, safety gear, medicines, electronics, toiletries, construction materials, home furnishings, and clothing; and WHEREAS, much of our essential clothing is composed of polyesters, nylons, acrylics, spandex, and other petrochemical textiles derived from oil and gas and petrochemical manufacturing; and WHEREAS, the apparel designer and manufacturer, The North Face, has for more than fifty years delivered an extensive line of performance apparel, outdoor equipment, and footwear that relies heavily on polyesters, nylons, and polyurethane made or derived from oil and gas and petrochemical products; and WHEREAS, late last year, The North Face, a brand of VF Corporation, rejected an order for four hundred jackets from an oil and gas services company because the request did not align closely with the goals and commitments surrounding sustainability and environmental protection espoused by The North Face; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 10 ENROLLED WHEREAS, The North Face continues to offer a comprehensive collection of high-performance outerwear, skiwear, backpacks, duffels, and footwear made with nylon, polyester, and polyurethane, all of which come from petroleum products; and WHEREAS, there is a symbiotic relationship between the Louisiana oil and gas and petrochemical industry and The North Face; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislature commends The North Face for utilizing vital oil and gas resources so important to our state in the manufacture of its products. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Louisiana Legislature does hereby recognize The North Face as an "Extraordinary Customer" of the Louisiana oil and gas and petrochemical industries. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Adam Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of Innovex Downhole Solutions; Steve Murray, Global Brand President, The North Face; and Steve Rendle, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of VF Corporation.
