HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 222

HIGHWAYS: Urges and requests the Department of Transportation and Development
increase the size of signage honoring veterans on the Veterans Memorial Bridge
1 A RESOLUTION
2To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to design and
3 install signs on the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
4 WHEREAS, the Veterans Memorial Bridge is dedicated to our veterans, who have
5nobly served our country; and
6 WHEREAS, our veterans deserve the utmost respect and appreciation; and
7 WHEREAS, the current signs on the Veterans Memorial Bridge are simple, small,
8and similar to "highway marker" signs; and
9 WHEREAS, the current signs on the Veterans Memorial Bridge are not befitting of
10the honor and respect our veterans deserve; and
11 WHEREAS, when the Huey P. Long Bridge was re-engineered and widened, the
12"Huey P. Long Bridge" signs were restored and reinstalled; and
13 WHEREAS, the signs on the Huey P. Long Bridge are twenty-eight feet long, four
14feet wide, and weigh two thousand five hundred pounds each; and
15 WHEREAS, the signs on the Veterans Memorial Bridge should be similar in scope
16and visibility to those on the Huey P. Long Bridge.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
18Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Department of Transportation and
19Development to design and install signs on the Veterans Memorial Bridge that are similar
20in scope and visibility to those on the Huey P. Long Bridge.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
2secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.
