SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 41

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Hahnville High School teacher Brittany Bonnaffons
upon being named the 2023 Louisiana Teacher of the Year.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend and congratulate Hahnville High School teacher Brittany Bonnaffons upon
3 being named the 2023 Louisiana Teacher of the Year.
4 WHEREAS, excellence in teaching is the result of commitment, dedication,
5 inspiration, patience, creativity, hard work, and the highest order of professional integrity;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, research clearly demonstrates that teachers are paramount to student
8 achievement and it has been estimated that a teacher has two to three times the impact of any
9 other school factor; and
10 WHEREAS, Brittany Bonnaffons is now serving in her twelfth year as an educator,
11 teaching algebra at Hahnville High School, where she also serves as head track coach; and
12 WHEREAS, she graduated from Louisiana Scholars' College at Northwestern State
13 University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration; and
14 WHEREAS, Ms. Bonnaffons went on to earn a Master of Science in business
15 administration from Louisiana State University, and a Master of Science in exercise science
16 from the University of Louisiana Monroe, as well as a Master of Arts in teaching from
17 Northwestern University; and
18 WHEREAS, historically, the Intensive Algebra students entering her class have

1 scored unsatisfactorily on their LEAP tests; however, under her direction, sixty-three percent
2 of Ms. Bonnaffons' students who were not on track to pass the LEAP and ninety-three
3 percent of her remaining learners passed the Algebra 1 LEAP 2025; and
4 WHEREAS, Ms. Bonnaffons' mission is to connect students to someone who has the
5 answers they need; and
6 WHEREAS, she believes math gives students perseverance, reasoning, and
7 problem-solving skills; and
8 WHEREAS, Ms. Bonnaffons works to connect students both inside and outside the
9 classroom walls to others who are successful to help students become the best versions of
10 themselves; and
11 WHEREAS, in 2018, Ms. Bonnaffons became the head coach for the track team and,
12 since that time, the team has captured four district championship team titles, two regional
13 runner-up team titles, more than fifty individual district medals, more than thirty individual
14 regional medals, and more than ten state medals; and
15 WHEREAS, she collaborates with the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference track and field
16 championship to give student athletes an awareness of collegiate opportunities; and
17 WHEREAS, Ms. Bonnaffons has said that her favorite things about coaching and
18 teaching are getting to see students really come alive inside and outside of the classroom and
19 that her goal is to bring out the best in students; and
20 WHEREAS, the Teacher of the Year program is a creation of the partnership
21 between the Dream Teachers, the Louisiana Association of Principals, and the Louisiana
22 Department of Education, which annually recognizes and celebrates the state's most
23 exceptional educators as a means to publicly honor and recognize the critical role of
24 instructional excellence in ensuring student success in school and in life; and
25 WHEREAS, Brittany Bonnaffons has been named the 2023 Louisiana Teacher of the
26 Year and is held in the highest regard by her students, her colleagues, and her community.
27 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
28 commend and congratulate Hahnville High School teacher, Brittany Bonnaffons upon being
29 named the 2023 Louisiana Teacher of the Year, does hereby recognize the tremendous pride
30 that this award bestows on Hahnville High School and the St. Charles Parish public school

1 system, and does hereby thank Ms. Bonnaffons for her commitment of energy and talent to
2 Louisiana's children.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
4 Brittany Bonnaffons.
