HOUSE BILL NO. 883

HEALTH CARE/FACILITIES:  Allows the provision of data relative to sickle cell disease
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1125.13, relative to sickle cell disease; to provide for the
3 sickle cell disease registry; to provide for individuals diagnosed with sickle cell
4 disease; to provide for the exchange of data by a healthcare provider with certain
5 associations; and to provide for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 40:1125.13 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
8 ยง1125.13.  Healthcare facilities; reporting of data
9	Upon making a diagnosis of sickle cell disease, a healthcare provider shall
10 provide to the department data regarding the individual who has been diagnosed with
11 the disease. A healthcare provider may also execute an agreement to provide data to
12 an association or entity that assists patients diagnosed with sickle cell disease in
13 obtaining care and other related resources.  The form and manner of the data shall
14 be prescribed by the department by rule duly promulgated in accordance with the
15 Administrative Procedure Act.

Abstract:  Allows  a healthcare provider to execute an agreement to provide data to an
sickle cell disease associations.
Present law establishes a registry to record data related to individuals diagnosed with sickle
cell disease in this state. 
Present law requires a healthcare provider to provide the La. Dept. of Health with patient
date when an individual is diagnosed with sickle cell disease. 
Present law directs the La. Dept. of Health to promulgate rules to govern the collection of
data. 
Proposed law allows a healthcare provider to execute an agreement to allow for the
communication of patient information to sickle cell disease associations.
