[SIMILAR MATTER FILED IN PREVIOUS SESSION SEE HOUSE, NO. 186 OF 2021-2022.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act relating to background checks for kinship foster care. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Section 32 of Chapter 119 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 2Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding at the end thereof the following paragraph:- the 3department shall screen potential grandparent care givers with a twenty year maximum look back 4on the potential guardian’s record. This is applicable to any minor infraction that has not been 5repeated since the first infraction. Instances of felonies, violence, and sexual offenses, no matter 6when it occurred, will not be removed from the look back.
